HAY is updating its collection of the iconic George Nelson Bubble Pendants with the addition of two new variants - the Angled Sphere and the Roll. Sharing the same characteristic silk covered design, the Angled Sphere brings gently sloping lines to the organic, floating shape, while the Roll’s softly squared shape offers the pendant in a slightly more cylindrical form. Offering a warm, ambient light, the lamps add a timeless elegance to any interior space.
Designed by George Nelson in 1947, the Nelson Bubble Pendant Lamp series comprises a range of pendant lighting solutions with varying spherical silhouettes. Inspired by a set of silk-covered Swedish hanging lamps, the lamps’ organic shapes appear to delicately float overhead, offering a soft and atmospheric light.
Born in Connecticut, USA, George Nelson (1908-1986) was one of the most influential figures in the crucial early period of modern design. Trained at Yale as an architect and a fine artist, he believed that a designer’s job was to better the world, using the perfection of nature’s creations as his guide. Two formative years in Rome following his receipt of the prestigious Rome Prize brought him into contact with the world’s leading modernists, including Le Corbusier, Mies Van der Rohe, Walter Gropius, Gio Ponti, and many others, and helped shape his career as a writer and industrial designer, who would change the
course of history.
